Writing is Living Freedom

Andreas Arz was born in 1979 in the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden as the second of three siblings and grew up in the town of Lorch in the Rheingau region.

His enthusiasm for the written word began in childhood, expressed through short stories and poems. After graduating from the commercial vocational school at St. Ursula Gymnasium in Geisenheim, he was drawn to the publishing world. He took his first steps in the media industry with an apprenticeship as a publishing clerk.

Following his apprenticeship, he pursued studies in marketing and communications in his hometown of Wiesbaden. These studies opened up new, creative paths for Andreas Arz, leading him directly into the advertising industry, where he remained for over five years. Writing was a constant companion during his professional career, providing balance to his everyday life.

At the end of this path came a significant turning point in his life. At the age of 28, he made a career shift and sought inspiration in Australia in the months that followed. Deliberately staying away from tourist hotspots, he ventured into remote areas, making a living through hard farm work. In sometimes tropical conditions, he used the physically demanding jobs to open his mind to new experiences. During this time, he produced many personal writings, particularly reflecting his experiences with the people and land.

Back in Germany, he initially worked for a major German daily newspaper before becoming involved in the family business. This gave him the freedom to pursue a degree in creative writing and to bring his debut novel to fruition, which was inspired by his deep connection to his homeland, the wine region of Rheingau. Motivated by the success of his first novel, more works followed, solidifying his intention to fully dedicate his life and career to the craft of writing.
